Guide to booking Cathay Pacific flights with American Airlines miles

Most people are not aware that American Airlines miles can be used to book Cathay Pacific flights. One of the restrictions is that Cathay Pacific flights must be booked over the phone. We’ll walk you through how to book from start to finish!

Step 1: Once you have met your points earning goal within RewardStock and are ready to either search availability or book, it’s time to go to the British Airways website. Yes, we know that sounds weird, but the British Airways website displays Cathay Pacific availability, which is all we need from them. Remember, make sure you search for flight availability prior to making any point transfers! This video will guide you through searching the British Airways site for flight availability.

Step 2: On the search results page, scroll down to, “Flights with partner airlines”. If there is availability, you will see the class of service and number of seats available to book. Ignore the number of points this displays, as you’re going to use the number of American Airlines miles needed (shown in RewardStock plan), not British Airways Avios. Great, you’ve found availability on the dates you’d like to fly! Take a screenshot and/or write down the details, as you’ll need these when calling American Airlines to book.

Step 3: Once the number of points needed to book the flight are in your American Airlines account, call American Airlines at 1-800-882-8880. Make sure you have the details from your search on British Airways and a credit card for taxes and fees to complete booking process.

Step 4: That’s it! Enjoy your flight!
